Performance Appraisal Process for Supervisors

Important! There are currently two performance appraisal processes in use across State of Idaho agencies. Please check with your HR team to confirm which appraisal process your agency is using before completing an appraisal.

Note: This page contains resources for the original performance appraisal process in Luma, including the Create Goals feature. The videos and screenshots were created before the August 2025 Luma visual updates, so some screens may look different in the current version of the system.

1. Outside of Luma

The following are optional, but recommended, steps for a supervisor to take before starting a performance appraisal in the Luma system.

GET ORGANIZED

Organize all documentation from review period.
Request a self-evaluation from the employee.
Collect feedback from others who work with the employee.

DRAFT YOUR APPRAISAL

Consider using a Word doc template to draft your performance appraisal outside of the Luma system. This will make entering the information easier later.

REVIEW WITH YOUR MANAGER

Send the draft appraisal to your upline manager for review and rating approval.

REVIEW WITH THE EMPLOYEE

Meet with the employee (face-to-face is preferred) to go over the draft appraisal and give them a chance to provide feedback. You can also discuss goals for the upcoming review period.
