CPM 2026 Cohort Capstones Are Coming: What Agency Leaders and HR Need to Know

The 2026 Certified Public Manager (CPM®) Program Cohort will enter the capstone phase in the coming months. During this phase, participants will apply the knowledge and skills they have developed throughout the program by leading a project that addresses a real organizational challenge and delivers measurable value to their agency.

This fall, we will begin sharing information with participants, HR, and agency leadership about the capstone process, including project requirements, timelines, expectations, and available resources. Agency leaders will play an important role by approving project proposals, ensuring projects align with agency priorities, and supporting participants throughout planning, implementation, and evaluation.

Capstone Timeline

  • October–December 2026: Participants identify capstone projects, collaborate with agency leadership, and obtain project approval.
  • January–May 2027: Participants plan, research, implement, and complete their capstone projects.
  • June 2027: Participants present their completed projects at the statewide CPM Capstone Showcase.

The capstone is the culmination of the CPM program and is designed to create meaningful improvements for agencies while giving participants the opportunity to demonstrate leadership, strategic thinking, and continuous improvement. Early collaboration between participants, HR, and agency leadership will help ensure projects are successful, achievable, and aligned with agency priorities.
